DAINA ASHBEE
Daina Ashbee was the 2019 winner of the New York City Bessie Award for Outstanding Choreographer. She has created 9 original dance/performance pieces that have toured to over 120 cities in 35 different countries around the world. She has also created commissioned pieces for the Venice Biennale in Italy, in 2018- for the state theatre of Munich, Germany, in 2019 as well as a commission for the Global Alliance Against Female Mutilation at the Museum of Geneva, Switzerland in 2015.
Daina presented her work at the Venice Biennale in Italy 2 years in a row, was a recipient of the National Art Centre's : National Creation Fund for her first group piece in 2018 and had a retrospective of the 5 original dance pieces she created in her twenties at the age of 30, at the prestigious Montpellier Danse Festival in France. In 2020, she was the recipient of the Clifford E. Lee Choreographer's Award from Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity.
